Islamabad: (Lord Media) The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved the Ministry of Energy’s request to impose fixed charges on electricity consumers. Under this decision, protected consumers using up to 100 units monthly will pay a fixed charge of 200 rupees, while those using up to 200 units will pay 300 rupees.
Similarly, for non-protected consumers, various categories have been set. Those using up to 100 units will be charged 275 rupees, up to 200 units 300 rupees, and up to 300 units 350 rupees.
Consumers using between 301 and 400 units will pay 400 rupees, while those using between 401 and 500 units will pay 500 rupees. Consumers using more than 500 units monthly will incur a fixed charge of 675 rupees.
NEPRA states that this measure is aimed at meeting the financial needs of the power sector and improving the system. Following this decision, fixed charges will be included in consumers’ monthly bills.
