Karachi: (Lord Media) Students from the University of Karachi have developed an advanced smart device named Cardio Wit to warn users before a heart attack. This device monitors heart rate, oxygen levels, body temperature, and other symptoms, alerting the patient when these indicators reach dangerous levels.
Abdul Hanan Zafar, a student from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the project team leader, explained that the device analyzes data through various sensors using an algorithm to avoid unnecessary alarms. It includes a microcontroller, graphic system, and OLED screen.
Student Mariha Saleem stated that this is the first device in Pakistan to make decisions by simultaneously assessing multiple symptoms, while Haniya Jamal mentioned that the device aims to raise awareness about heart attack symptoms.
Abdullah Faheem shared that artificial intelligence will be integrated into the device in the future for further updates. The device was developed in one and a half months at a cost of only 8,000 to 10,000 rupees, making it beneficial for resource-limited areas.
Baneesh Asghar emphasized that the device’s purpose is to alert patients in time to prevent life-threatening incidents like heart attacks. Hajra Faheem added that with government support, it could be produced on a larger scale.
